Sitting Service Project

Bristol Sitting Service was established to provide a brief respite care service in the home to South Asian carers of elderly people living in all areas of Bristol. There is a sister project in South Gloucestershire.

Who can have a sitter?

If you are a relative or friend caring for some one who is elderly, frail, ill, disabled or confused and you need a break from caring, then you may be entitled to the services of a sitter. The Sitting Service can be used in addition to other services such as Home Care and Day Care.

Who are the Sitters?

Sitters are recuited from all South Asian backgrounds. They are chosen for their honesty and reliability. They are experienced workers how are trained to care in different home situations and deal with emergencies.

What will the Sitters do?

The sitters go into homes to relieve the carers for between 2-3 hours allowing them a break from their duties of care. They will receive instructions from carers on how best to care for their relatives or friends in their absence.
